As it is logical, preaching is the main mission of the friars of the Order of Preachers, also called Dominicans. As such, they have been preaching in varied forms since their foundation by St Dominic de Guzman in the early 13th century. They do this above all, by word of mouth and writing but also through art. A good example of this is the façade of the Church of San Esteban that has been beautifully heralding the Gospel for over four centuries to all who gaze at it.

The martyrdom of San Esteban
In the centre stands out the martyrdom of San Esteban, the patron of the church, a work of Juan Antonio Ceroni, at the beginnings of the 17th century. This representation is like the centre around which, serving as a triumphal retinue, the statutes of saints and blesseds, mainly from the Dominican Order, gather.

The upper part
The upper part of the façade, more of the Renaissance, separated from the lower one by very fine reliefs, centres around the Calvary scene by Ceroni. We find ourselves before a masterpiece in which is combined without strident frictions, the Renaissance styled arches, the flamboyant Gothic canopies with grotesque and medallion characteristics of the best Spanish Renaissance.
